Volunteer
One of the best gifts you can give
is your time
The Nova Scotia SPCA simply could not function without the help of the fantastic volunteers who help with our shelters, fundraising, fostering, TNR, and supporting the SPCA thrift stores.
Are you ready to put your paw up and help?
We have so many opportunities to get involved! Check out some of our requirements and opportunities below then click Apply Now to start helping local animals in need.
SPCA Animal Shelters
We are always looking for more people to join our volunteer shelter team. Volunteers can find their niche because we have so many ways to help like: office admin, shelter greeter, animal care, photographer and animal transport. Read the full description of each opportunity here.
Requirements: 18 years of age or older, available for a long-term commitment and/or able to work the same day each week, comfortable around cats and dogs of breeds and size, enjoy working on a team and have excellent customer service skills. In some cases, may need a driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Apply NowSPCA Thrift Stores
Relying on the generosity and support of community donations and volunteers, our thrift stores accept a wide variety of household items, giving thrift-savvy customers another avenue to support the SPCA while in turn keeping these items out of landfills.
When you volunteer at any of our thrift stores, you will be making a difference for local animals in need.
Requirements: Friendly, willing to work on a team, experience with cash an asset, must commit to at least one 3-5 hour shift per week.
Learn MoreFundraising and Events
The Nova Scotia SPCA receives $0 in government funding for any of our shelters! This means raising funds and awareness is extra important. There are many opportunities throughout the year where we need volunteer representation at fundraising events in the community.
Requirements: Customer service skills, comfortable soliciting donations and talking to crowds, and a warm and compassionate heart!
Apply NowTrap, Neuter, Return
The SPCA, in cooperation with local rescue groups, is looking for volunteers to assist with Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) areas such as trapping, transporting, and caring for feral cats recovering from surgery. Like all of our opportunities, training is provided!
The time commitment will be dependent on what TNR efforts are occurring. When a project is scheduled many volunteers are required for 3-5 days prior to the surgery date and for 3-5 days after the surgery date.
Requirements: This role will involve working outside in the community at various locations and can be physically demanding.
