Adopt

The homeless animals in our shelters are waiting patiently and hoping for that moment when someone will look into their eyes and see how special they are.  Become a hero by rescuing a pet and creating space for more animals to be saved.

ADOPT A BEST FRIEND

Volunteer

We have more than 500 volunteers that help with animal care, admin, fostering, fundraising, TNR, and supporting our thrift stores. Come see for yourself how rewarding it is and why we’ve been voted as “Best Place to Volunteer” for 7 years in a row!

DONATE YOUR TIME

Foster

Foster families provide socialization and love to pets who are young or need to recover from illnesses or injuries.  When you temporarily open up your heart and home to a foster pet, we will provide all the supplies and training you need.

OPEN YOUR HOME

Support Second Chances

The Pictou SPCA proudly follows no-kill principles and does not receive any government funding for their shelter.

Some pets need one-on-one support to overcome abuse and neglect. Others need emergency medical treatment to survive.

Your support saves lives. Please donate to help local pets at the Pictou SPCA today.

History

The Pictou County Animal Shelter was formed in 1979 and has provided a necessary service to the many animals and residents of the towns and municipality. The Branch depends on the generosity of the residents and businesses of Pictou County to help keep the shelter doors open.

Services include but are not limited to care of animals, both abandoned and stray; re-home animals given up by their owners; and pound services for the county and Pictou; we also do educational presentations at the schools and works with John Howard’s Restorative justice, Summer Street Industries and other community groups.

Pictou County Animal Shelter relies on volunteers and donations; further income is generated by our year round fundraising efforts which include: tickets sales, I.D.tags, memberships, bottle drives, bowl-a-thons, bake sales, Christmas wrap and BBQ’s. Our biggest fundraiser is our annual Christmas letter.

Through our involvement with the schools, we now have multiple schools that are providing fundraising efforts to help the animals of the Pictou County. Their ideas range from Dance-a-thons, wake-a –thons to birthday parties etc.

We have a very good relationship with the local businesses of Pictou County and through the years they have given a huge amount of support. Pictou Animal Shelter also benefits from an excellent relationship with the local media in Pictou County as well.

We thank the community as a whole for all the years of support.
