The Yarmouth Animal Shelter is only one of two Nova Scotia SPCA shelters west of Halifax. The Yarmouth Animal Shelter was the first to be formed in 1900 and built an animal shelter in 1982/83 with an extension added in 1989 and renovated in 2006. There are currently four employees and many dedicated volunteers that support it.
The Yarmouth Animal Shelter rescues and takes care of abused, abandoned, homeless animals and attempts to find good homes for the unwanted animals in our care. We admit approximately 700 animals per year to the shelter. The expenses of running the shelter are covered by fundraising, memberships, donations, dog control services and community events.
We go through many supplies to show homeless pets the love and care they deserve. Check out our wish list here for the items we are most often in need of.
Adopting an animal from an SPCA, humane organization or rescue group can be a very rewarding experience. You will be giving a homeless animal a second chance in life and providing it with a safe, loving forever home.
