Jolene is a bunny who knows a thing or two about second chances. She was adopted not once, but several times, only to find herself back at the SPCA through no fault of her own. Each return to the shelter seemed to take a little more out of Jolene’s spirit. Each time, she had to start over, waiting for someone to see what a special girl she really was. She needed someone who would finally be her ‘forever’.
After a year and a half of coming and going, Jolene finally found her person – Taylor Snair. It turned out that Jolene and Taylor were ‘tailor-made’ for each other. And since May 27, 2025, Jolene has been exactly where she was meant to be – home.
Before adopting Jolene, Taylor chuckled that she was guilty of randomly checking the SPCA website for ‘a little dose of cuteness’. “Jolene’s story touched my heart and I was instantly intrigued,’ said Taylor. “I read that she would do best as the only bunny in the home where she can feel secure and blossom at her own pace. I knew that I could provide Jolene with a peaceful environment and that I could give her all the love and attention she deserves.”
Taylor recalled, “When I first met Jolene, she wanted nothing to do with me. I was obviously not interesting enough! But eventually she let me hold her and she snuggled right into my neck. I was sold! To this day, it’s the first thing she does when I hold her and it is one of my favourite traits about her.”
Given Jolene’s history, Taylor was amazed at how quickly she adapted. “It was remarkable how she wanted to explore everything and did not seem shy at all,” exclaimed Taylor. “It took a bit of time for her to have more energy, but nowadays, she never seems to stop having the zoomies.“ 
Fast forward one year – Jolene is queen of the castle and she definitely knows it! “She goes wherever she wants in the house whenever she wants. Sometimes, she jumps up on my bed at 3 am to tell me she needs attention. She is famous for her grunts and little slaps whenever I try to clean (destroy, in her mind) her enclosure. She may also be the only rabbit who ‘purrs’ when she is being petted. I have never met such an expressive rabbit and it has truly been the best!“
Jolene, or Jojo as she‘s typically called, is a major foodie. Taylor said “She is very food motivated and I have yet to find something she will not eat! She also makes people laugh. Jolene’s evening routine is to sit in her little bed on my bed while we watch true crime together. Whether she actually enjoys it or just humours me, I will never know! Despite watching true crime, she is not a good criminal. One day while visiting the office with me (where she is very popular), she tried to steal my coworker’s banana peel but slipped on it and slid across the floor.”
Taylor considers herself so lucky that Jolene came into her life. “She is my little best friend who is always there. When I am at home, she is always by my side. And Jojo is mobile! I have discovered that she enjoys car rides in her little carrier and I was given a pet stroller to make adventures more accessible!”
Taylor has some advice for anyone considering adopting a rabbit. “Don’t overlook an older bunny. Just because they are older doesn’t mean they are ready to retire! Jolene was 4 years old when I adopted her. She is over 5 years old now but has the energy of a 1 year old and is constantly on the move. I would also say to never judge a book by its cover. Jojo was returned once for being unfriendly, but she is one of the most loving animals I’ve ever met. So don’t pass up a bunny who may have been at the shelter for a long time. It doesn’t mean that something is wrong with them. It means that they are waiting for their person, which I hope Jojo has found in me.”
There were many stops along the way on Jolene’s journey, but each one brought her a little closer to the happily-ever-after she was meant to have.

“When my dog Jasper was still with us, Jolene was absolutely in love with him. However, he was terrified of the small bundle of fluff that kept following him. My sister’s male guinea pig is obsessed with Jolene, but she does not seem to notice the admiration. She is too busy exploring everything and climbing as high as she can get.”
