Cats VS Dogs

BREAKING MEWS!!! Another $25,000 match has been unlocked!

Our furr-bulous donor has been inspired by the generosity of pet lovers and has increased their match in honour of their fur-baby, Pearl.

We love all pets. In fact, on average, 400 homeless animals are brought to safety at the Nova Scotia SPCA every month. But we get asked all the time… Which pet is best? Dogs or cats?

So, for this Giving Tuesday, we’re asking YOU to help settle this BFF Battle.

Make a donation below to your fave and watch their thermometer go up. If you can’t choose, and love both equally, select ‘both’ and make your kind gift there.

Your generous support will not only help us solve a worldwide debate BUT it will help unwanted and unloved pets who desperately need help. Thank you!

A message from Pearl’s mom:

Unconditional Everything!

Pearl changed my life in October 2008. She was around two years old and was perfect from day one.

She understood many words and was a very good listener. When I said her name, she responded without hesitation and was rewarded with praise and love every time.

Despite her small size, she had quite a deep voice, which she used to protect me from anything she felt I needed protection from. She was never aggressive, but she routinely alerted me to anything she found suspicious and, at the same time, alerted others that I had 24-hour security. She made me feel very safe.

She was a wonderful traveller: we drove all across North America together, visiting Alaska, Key West and everything in-between. Even with our surroundings always changing, she readily adapted. It was like she would look to me for reassurance and, if I was good, she was good.

Wherever I was, she was by my side. If I was sick in bed, she was on my bed; if I was watching TV, she was on my lap; if I was at the beach, she was on my towel. We were such good friends.

Sweet Pearl crossed the Rainbow Bridge in October 2022. This perfect little rescue was a gentle soul who taught me about how deep the connection can be between humans and animals: love, loyalty, trust and more love.
