Thank you so much for indicating your interest in fostering for the Nova Scotia SPCA. This portion of the form is designed to give applicants additional information about the requirements for fostering different animals, and to give the SPCA team some more information about the foster home.

This process can take approximately 10 minutes. If you are currently renting or do not own your home please have your landlord's name and contact number ready. We also ask that you have three reference names, contact numbers and/or email addresses at the ready.

Please ensure that you have permission to foster animals from the property owners or landlords before submitting this application. You are responsible for any damage done to any private or personal property by a foster animal while it is in your care. It is your responsibility to ensure that your lease or housing situation allows foster animals. Please provide the name and phone number of the homeowner or your landlord below, as well as your relationship with them.

Do you have reliable access to a vehicle and the ability to come to the shelter for necessary health checks for your foster animal(s)?

Yes

Fosters may be required to travel to and from the shelter multiple times in a foster period. This would include for pick up and return of foster animals, but also for appointments and picking up necessary supplies. If you are not able to meet this requirement, we encourage you to see our Volunteering section on our webpage for other ways that you may be able to help shelter animals.

What is your primary reason for wanting to foster animals with the NS SPCA?

I want to help animals that are not well-suited to life in a shelter.

I want to volunteer with shelter animals, but cannot commit to the schedule requirements for in-person volunteering.

I want to have animals in my life, but am unable to commit to a permanent pet at this time.

I want to adopt and I think that fostering is a good way to find the right "fit".

Our foster program is usually intended to provide temporary placement for those animals that may not be adjusting well in shelter or may need a little extra care than what we can provide in shelter. Once the animal in foster has been cleared the foster can absolutely decide if they want to provide that animal a forever home, but the intention with foster placements is that it is only temporary and that the animal comes back to the shelter to move onto the journey of meeting adoptive families.

If you are seeking to add a new friend to your home your best step forward is to look at our adoption process. We have a 30-day return policy that allows for the transition into a new home and if for any reason the adoption does not work out you will receive a refund.
