The Nova Scotia SPCA is hiring a fulltime veterinarian interested in shelter medicine. While we are a fast past organization and our veterinarians perform a lot of surgeries during the day, the upside is that your worklife with the Nova Scotia SPCA is never boring! A Veterinarian’s day is full of a variety of tasks including shelter rounds with an ever evolving number of animals, conditions and various surgical emergencies which provide a lot of variety. In addition to working out of the HRM, there are a number of opportunities throughout the year to visit other provincial animal shelters to perform rounds and/or surgeries and at times travel to more rural communities providing preventative care to animals who would otherwise not receive these services.

Qualified candidates should be proficient in herd health, vaccine protocol, preventative medicine and care for dogs and cats. The qualified candidate will be proficient in performing a variety of surgical proceedures including spays and neuters, dentistries, amputations, innoculations, FHOs ect.
Occassional weekend hours are required, but no on-call or overnight shifts will be required. The Nova Scotia SPCA offers a competitive salary, professional development allowance and health/medical benefits.
