General Job Description
The Nova Scotia SPCA College of Animal Welfare is launching a career exploration program for youth ages 12-16 from underrepresented communities. This program will provide learning opportunities for the students about different roles within the animal care industry. As an Animal Care Career Coordinator, you will play a key role in developing and delivering this program while fostering a culturally responsive educational environment. The ideal candidate for this position will have animal health training and have experience working with youth and animals.

Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Associate Director of Veterinary Education Programs to develop the Animal Care Career Exploration Program
- Modify and condense existing Veterinary Assistant curriculum for engaging youth education
- Ensure program content is culturally responsive and inclusive
- Deliver curriculum through a mix of classroom instruction and experiential learning
- Represent the Nova Scotia SPCA College of Animal Welfare at high school post-secondary information events
- Assist with the planning and execution of the College’s Open House in May 2026
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Training as a Veterinary Assistant, Veterinary Technician, or in another animal care role
- Strong communication skills with a passion for youth education
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to build relationships
- Working knowledge of animal health, including dog/cat behavior, parasitology, nutrition, and common health concerns
Schedule & Hours
- May 1 – Aug 29, 2025: 8 hours per week (Flexible, online)
- Oct 6 – Nov 7, 2025: 4 hours per week (Evenings & weekends)
- Apr 27 – May 29, 2026: 4 hours per week (Evenings & weekends)
- May 2026: 4 additional hours for an Open House (On campus)
Additional Information
- Some evening and weekend work required
- Valid driver’s license required
