Veterinary Services

Services for Your Pet

Our goal is to keep more pets in loving homes. Veterinary services are a key tool in keeping pets safe, happy, and healthy.

The organization is proud to establish the SPCA Veterinary Hospital in Dartmouth which is the first full-service, social enterprise hospital in eastern Canada.

We also have an animal hospital in Sydney with a wide scope of services for all pets and families and a clinic in Yarmouth that provides spay/neuter services for low-income families.

“The process was really easy. The communication was clear. The woman with whom I spoke with on the phone and at the clinic was friendly, knowledgeable and professional.”

“Prompt and courteous service. Staff kind and caring. Explained procedures and aftercare as well as what to expect and look out for. Very happy with the service.”

No-Kill Principles

The SPCA ensures essential medical care to every animal that comes through our doors.  Through our veterinary hospitals and clinics, we are able to perform surgeries and treat in-house, keeping costs as low as possible.

We follow no-kill principles which means we do not euthanize animals for space.

Before adoption, kittens and cats undergo a complete physical exam, FeLV test, 1st distemper vaccine, flea treatment, worm treatment, 24Hour Pet Watch Microchip, 8-week trial of SPCA Pet Health Insurance, and are spayed or neutered.

Likewise, puppies and dogs receive a complete physical exam, 1st distemper vaccine, flea treatment, worm treatment, 24Hour Pet Watch Microchip, 8-week trial of SPCA Pet Health Insurance and are spayed or neutered.
